Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva was the first Artist-in-Restaurant at Pied à Terre, Michelin-starred restaurant in London. Vessel V is inspired by Witness of Virility an installation work which formed part of her solo exhibition The Wish of the Witness at the restaurant.
The installation work Witness of Virility was made up of eighty sheep’s testicles, each preserved and sculpted into stunning ‘light bulbs'. This artwork, created in close collaboration with Matt Gillan, who was the head chef at The Pass at the time, and the other works in the exhibition positioned themselves between the beautiful and the brutal. Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva is ‘recomposing decomposition’ into new forms. The Wish of the Witness was produced following a period of 8 months in-depth research by the artist and Pied à Terre chefs and is influenced and informed by the restaurant’s daily routines, menus and their presentation or plating of dishes.
Vessel V is collectable artwork made of a sheep’s testicle sack, preserved and mounted in a glass dome with a wooden black stained mahogany base. The alluring sack is mounted by hand made brass neckless that will crystalize blue over time adding an extra dimension and beauty to this unique piece. While made in series of 10, each one is unique as they come direct from individual animals.
